In The Kitchen -- Summer Smoothie Time

With an impressive heatwave under our belt in California (my onboard thermostat actually hit a hundred and two last week!), I've been thrust straight into summer and smoothie mode. Nothing does hit the spot better in warm temps, and I've already got two mainstays on a loop -- one with papaya that I've been whipping up for years, and a newer green one that I can't seem to get enough of.

They go like this...

SPINACH KALE SMOOTHIE
{based on the green smoothie served at Cafe Luna}

Ingredients:

1 handful Spinach
1 handful Kale
1 Banana
1 cup Almond Milk (or milk of your choice)
A few dashes of Cinnamon
1 scoop Protein Powder (or a superfoods powder)

Whirl it all in a blender, and voila -- iron, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, protein filled, fresh green glory deliciousness in a glass.

Next up:

PAPAYA CASHEW SMOOTHIE
{one of my own concoctions}

Half of a Papaya
1 Banana {use frozen if looking for a colder smoothie}
1 handful of raw Cashews (or swap for Pecans for another kind of yum)
1/2 cup Greek Yogurt
A drizzle of Flaxseed Oil
3/4 cup Almond Milk (or milk of your choice)

Blend... pour... sip... and savor this healing, anti-aging, immune building, protein delivering, subtle and frothy glass of mellowness.
